FIRE EQUIPMENT

We would recommend the installation of fire equipment in most commercial, industrial and public buildings as they can be used by the occupants as the first response to a small developing fire. Plus it usually will help with your insurance premiums, a lot of insurance companies will also recommend extinguishers and other items be on site. But what do you need for your business? What solutions will assist your people in their time of an emergency?

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

All fire extinguishers are not created equally, there are a few different types and some are suited to better environments than others. For example, if you have a kitchen in your building and you have a fire involving oil or fats then you’re probably going to want to use a Wet Chemical Fire Extinguisher but this type of extinguisher could be dangerous if used on an electrical fire. FIRE BLANKETS

These are ideal for settings where small Class F fires are a risk. Areas may include kitchens or wherever oils or fats are present. Fire blankets can also be used to put out a fire on a person if their clothing catches fire.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Using the fire blanket smothers the fire, cutting off the fire’s oxygen supply, either putting it out or stalling it until more effective equipment can be reached.

WHAT OTHER USES DOES IT HAVE?

You can use the fire blanket to cover the burning material. Hold the fire blanket in front you protecting your body, hands, and face, then cover the object trying to leave no gaps of oxygen to fuel the fire. Cut the supply of electricity or fuel type power and contact the fire department. Leaving it covered for at least 30 minutes should be sufficient to let the material cool.

Always read the instructions for your Fire Blanket before use. These are a-“use once” item and should be disposed and replaced after the event. If you’re already one of our customers just call us and we’ll courier you a replacement the same day or even drive it there if we are in the area.

Note: Fire Blankets are not designed for re-use! It is essential that you dispose of your Fire Blanket once it has been employed.

All our fire blankets are compliant with NZS 3504.
